The word communication is an activity that we sending information to
each other by speech and writing. Communication technology define as an
activity that using electronic system such as mobile phones, laptops ,
television, radio and tablet which we use to communicate each other in a long
distance. Why communication technology is so important, because the
communication technology we using now made people lives better than before.
Through the improvement of technology, communication technology is getting
greater. Long ago, people send letters to communicate with each other, the
distance of the senders and receivers may affect the time that the letter
receive. For short distance, it may take up to 4-5 days to receive, and for
long distance, it may take a month or a few months. The communication technology now can let
people instantly communicate with each other even people are living in
different countries and states by using emails, text message, phone call and
social networking websites. It is very convenient to everyone because we can
instantly contact with our friends and family using Skype, Wechat and Facetime.
Besides that, communication technology connects all people around the
world by using internet. Social networking websites can make new friends with
people all around the world. Some of the famous social networking websites like
Facebook, Twitter provides people a space to reduced pressure. Communication
technology can broadens our knowledge, internet provides us variable source of
information. With the search engine “Google” we can any answer that we ask. In
my own opinion, common technology brings us two great advantages are save time
and save money. Through the internet, we can do online shopping. This can save
our time from going out to shopping center. Mom and dads can buy items online
and have it delivered right to your door. This saves lots of time, and mom and
dads can spend time with their children at home. Doing price survey online can
prevent buying expensive items, this may save a lot of cash.
The advantages of communication technology for business are
communication technology business can use mass email to inform their employees
and students of relevant information. Businesses can improve their marketing
and advertisement techniques by targeting their specific target market.
Facebook “likes” allow for specific interests to be targeted and smartphone
apps can track where people go and what stores they visit. This can provide
business a professional survey and in this way, businesses can aim promotions
and other public relations accurately. Communication technology gives business
a very convenient service, E-banking. Thanks to the communication technology
now, we can do all of business banking online anytime. One of the things that
most people dislike about is waiting in line. It is not uncommon to find
yourself waiting in line at a bank, waiting to be helped. But the E-banking now
businesses don’t have to wait in line to get the business banking done, this
let business work more efficiently.
There are both advantage and disadvantage of communication technology,
the disadvantage are, the releasing of social networking can actually effect
people’s socializing skills, some people believe that they are losing their
social skills as they are regularly chatting online, some of them actually get
shy while having to talk face to face because they are just not use to doing it
anymore. As people are communicating regularly through text messages, sarcasm
can easily be misread as there is no vocal tone and you no facial expressions.
This problem may lead to misunderstandings. The most important disadvantages to
the generation y is addiction of the internet. Some people get addicted to the
web and this can cause social isolation. It may also affect studies. Children
are now been bullied not just at school but at home too! Cyber bullying are
getting more and more common due to the improvement of communication
technology.
There is also certain disadvantages of communication technology to
business. In the other hand of E-banking, is the bank tellers, as they are
taking in machines so there is less people going into banks, so that means
there is no need for bank tellers. So the banks are saving money by buying
machines to do work. Although the communication technology improve a lot from
the past, there are still some security issues. Using business technology in
communication can create various security issues. Emails, text message and
other website communication are often vulnerable to hackers or other
individuals who should not have access to certain information. Besides that,
according to CNET News, on average, it take eight minutes for a person to
return a creative state. There are other forms of technology vying for employee
time including online games, music and videos. This kind of distraction may
slow down the progress.
Nowadays, communications needs in healthcare vary widely. It is helpful
to separate communication needs into the intra organizational needs within
particular groups, such as hospitals or primary care centers, and the
inter-organizational needs that occur at the interfaces between different
organizations. For example, are characterized by the widely differing task
styles and organizational structures of individuals within the two groups. In
the following sections, current work devoted to supporting communication within
the areas of community and hospitals will be reviewed. Besides that, people who
are deafblind use many different of communication. Now a deafblind person can
go on a website that has been well designed according to current accessibility
standards. Example, Voice over Program, Voice over reader and the deafblind communicator.
In the other hand, communications technology in healthcare may cause
numerous health problems. Spending too much squinting at the screen of the
computer may damage eyesight. Obesity is also a risk because they lower the
chance to exercise and have no longer time to prepare healthy meals for
themselves. They usually eat fast-food. There are also potential risks relating
to cancer with regular exposure to intense radiation of mobile phones.
Moreover, communication technology such as mobile phones, televisions and
laptops may cause distraction. People do not tend to switch it off and they cannot
focus on what they are doing.
Data Protection Act 1988 and 2003
was introduced because of the numbers of data stores on computer is increasing
every day. Some of the data that people store on computer is very important
such as bank transaction, contact detail and bank balances. Data Protection Act
gives rights to individuals whose data are stored on computer and creates
responsibilities to data controllers. Individuals with data that are stored on
computer have the right to know the purposes of the data controller for keeping
that data, be informed of the identity of the data controller that holds data
related to you, and remove your name from a direct marketing list and claim
compensation through the courts if the data controller misuses your information
or did not correct the false information that is on your data. The
responsibilities for data controllers are correct any errors on the data,
ensure that the information is accurate and up to date, give individuals the
ability to access to their personal information and secure data against illegal
access or loss by putting passwords on computers. Freedom of Information Act
1988 and 2003 gives right for everyone to access information held by government
departments and public bodies and acquires reasons for decisions affecting
individuals. The public body must offer you an explanation if you are not given
what you ask for.
Communication technology has had a
major impact of the world. It has globally taken to replace a lot of jobs. In
my opinion I think it has more advantages than disadvantages. I hope the
improvement of science can replace the disadvantages of the communication
technology to a better advantage.
